Flying Fish

Day 2 started with a trip to Arches National Park near Moab, Utah.  We had a great time and set off for Zion National Park.  After about 100 miles, I was ready to be done for the day.  We were at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere and my options were 1)Get to the nearest plane, train, or bus and get myself back home.  Turned out to not be an option - note the above location "middle of nowhere."  Option 2:  Hitchhike with one of two vehicles at the rest stop.  Vehicle 1 was filled with a large family of Mexicans, including several children and a dog.  Vehicle 2 was occupied by two men wearing extremely tall socks and sandals (possible German) and gulping down whole cherries out of a plastic bag. (Before I get any judgmental comments, yes, I know I am racial stereotyping.  I am a minority and am therefore allowed.  Were Jerry doing this, it would be an issue.  Plus, I can't help it if the Mexicans were all crammed into one car and the two German guys were wearing socks and sandals.)   Needless to say that neither vehicle looked promising.  Option 3:  Ride with the three leather garbed men hanging out by a picnic table who looked like they were considering eating a sandwich that someone had left there.
You can tell my level of desperation, because I chose Option 3.
We got back on the road and eventually made it to our lunch stop of Richfield, Utah.  We were eating at a Burger King there when my two very tall sons decided to sit in a booth clearly made for smaller people.  In my hurry to take a photo to show all of you what I am dealing with on a daily basis, I dropped my camera.  The same camera which I had successfully held onto for 1 1/2 days at speeds in excess of 60 mph.  Not once did I ever come close to dropping it while on the road, and then I drop it at a Burger King.
It worked for a few more hours, but I ended up spending the rest of the day "CLUTCHING" my phone (which doesn't have a wrist strap like the camera) while trying to photograph one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been to - Zion National Park.
I rescued the SD card from the camera and upload part of the day's photos to Jerry's facebook.  Hope that you enjoy them.  (Make sure and look for the ones with the boys squeezed into the car at Burger King.

I have some beautiful photos on my camera phone that I am not smart enough to get on my computer.  I have an HTC One X if anyone out there has any suggestions.
Now to the flying fish  . . . Josh is wonderful to travel with until he gets bored.  We were on a particularly boring stretch of road today and he decided that if he threw the goldfish crackers that he was eating straight up in the air, that they would hit Zach who was riding behind him.  You can imagine all of the laughter as the crackers pelted Zach.  Then the knuckleheads started a 10 mile game of Josh trying to throw the crackers and getting them to actually hit Zach right in the face visor.  ALL of this time, Jerry (in his best parenting voice) is repeating in the microphone - "If you boys crash while you're fooling around with those crackers, I will beat both of you!"
  Happy Mother's Day - enough said . . .
