Fact of the Day - Trailers Need Brakes

We are going to trailer the bikes to Denver and start our grand adventure from there.  Why not just start from OKC?  Well, not only is it about 650 miles from Oklahoma City to Denver, but those are 650 miles that we have driven many times before, and if you don't think that's a lot of miles, try adding them to the tail end of a cross country trip.  Jerry and the boys said the WORST part of their trip two years ago was the home stretch from St. Louis to OKC, a road that they had seen many times before and that never seemed to end.

So, a generous friend of ours is going to let us use his car hauler to trailer the bikes to and from our starting point.  Thank goodness he is one of our smarter friends and thought to ask us if we had a trailer brake installed in Jerry's vehicle.  Imagine 2200 pounds of motorcycle on a 2000 pound trailer all trying to come to a stop behind Jerry's Buick Enclave.  (When Jerry came home with a Buick - Josh said "Dad, your first Old Person car")  Random question - Can you pull cool looking motorcycles behind a Buick?  That remains to be seen.

Anyway, I guess I should have paid more attention to my physics teacher, and less attention to the "Student Assistant," a handsome football player with "Hurley" on his jersey who was always willing to "help" with my homework.  I didn't even think about the fact that we would have to have a brake installed.

As to why that physic's prodigy didn't realize we needed the brakes . . . we'll chalk that one up to him having a lot of things on his mind, like trying to squeeze in replacing all of the hardwood floors in our house during the two weeks we set aside for "trip planning."

It looks like we are all going to learn a lot on this trip.  First the geography lesson, then the climatology lesson, and now physics!  Good thing that we're a "home edukating" family and open to learning. :-)

   Tomorrow - packing day . . .

The top motorcycle is Jerry's.  It is a Kawasaki Nomad 1700.  The bottom motorcycle is Josh's.  It is Honda VTX 1300.  Zach's bike is a newer Honda VTX 1300 in blue.
